When asked by the services provider Sodexo (via their ‘University Lifestyle Survey’) the modern undergraduate was asked to reveal the five most important things about their university life. The seventh Sodexo ‘University Lifestyle Survey’ has been run annually since 2004 and provides a comprehensive overview of university life for undergraduates.
2,000 students were asked to access the wide range of services provided by universities from study opportunities and careers services to accommodation and clubs and societies.
The latest survey reveals 85% of those questioned were ‘generally satisfied’ with their quality of life as a student with 30% ‘very satisfied’. 74% of those asked were happy with the buildings and facilities their university offers. Asked what improvements to facilities students would like to see the university library was increasingly popular. Both a study location and a social hub was the place they wanted to see money spent. 26% listed it as the key area for investment which was up from 19% in the last survey. Student union or university-run bars was also flagged as a good area to invest followed closely by IT facilities.
Sodexo Universities Strategic Development Director, Peter Taylor said “This year’s survey has served to endorse the view that with the sharp rise in university fees, student expectations of facilities and services at university have gone up dramatically.” You can access the full survey here
As part of university policy’s for continual development and commitment to enhance the students experience many university and college library and learning services are deciding to offer an automated laptop loan scheme for the students to use. 35% of UK’s universities have already deployed the LapSafe® Diplomat LMS Self-Service device loan service in their libraries. This figure will increase to well over 50% of universities by the end of the summer 2016.
