iPad apps to get children moving for summer

<p>The popularity of iPads in undeniable, and there’s loads of great apps out there aimed at children’s health and fitness. We’ve put together a short list of fun and interactive iPad apps, which will encourage children to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, or help children and adults to get active together.</p><p><a href=”http://meyouhealth.com/munch-5-a-day/” target=”_blank”><strong>Munch 5-a-Day</strong></a><a href=”http://meyouhealth.com/munch-5-a-day/” target=”_blank”> </a>- This fun and free app allows children (and adults!) to track how many portions of fruit and vegetables they have eaten a day with colourful cartoon graphics. It also allows the user to set custom goals and awards mystery badges as rewards for success, which children can earn and trade for a special prize.</p><p><a href=”http://appcrawlr.com/ios/short-sequence-kids-yoga-journ” target=”_blank”><strong>Short Sequence: Kids’ Yoga Journey Lite</strong></a> - Yoga isn’t for everyone, but this short app has 7 easy to follow yoga moves for children which may spark their interest. With its cute and colourful backgrounds and fun names for each move, it gives younger children an easy introduction to yoga. The full length app is chargeable, but this shortened version is free.</p><p><a href=”https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/itrampoline/id448652799?mt=8” target=”_blank”><strong>iTrampoline</strong> </a>- If you have a trampoline, or have access to one, then this great free app allows you to count how many times your child has bounced on the trampoline and measures this against a famous landmark. For instance, you can tell your child when they’ve bounced as high as the Eiffel Tower and once you’ve entered weight, count how many calories have been used against a range of popular foods. This could even work in PE lessons, where children could take it in turns to bounce and count each other’s bounces.</p><p><a href=”https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/change4life-fun-generator/id526706782?mt=8” target=”_blank”><strong>Change4Life fun generator</strong> </a>- As part of the Government’s Change4Life initiative, this app has over 100 fun activities for children to enjoy indoors or outside. So whether it’s a rainy day, or a sunny weekend is on the cards, children can get active with this brilliant app. It allows you to select indoor or outdoor activities, how many children are joining in, and even gives instruction videos and allows you to print activity sheets and share with friends via Twitter or Facebook.</p><p><a href=”https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pe-games-100+-games-activities/id517433270?mt=8” target=”_blank”><strong>PE Games - 100+ Games for Teachers</strong></a> – This app isn’t a free one, but it’s great for PE teachers and sports coaches looking for some inspiration for lessons.
