Parents want schools to embrace mobile learning
9 September 2011
Parents think that schools should be doing more to embrace mobile learning, according to a survey from Encyclopaedia Britannica.
More than half (55 per cent) of parents say that schools should use educational apps to help their pupils learn at school and at home, while nearly a fifth (18 per cent) agreed strongly that schools should be doing more to encourage pupils to use mobile technology.
The survey canvassed 510 parents about their attitudes to mobile ICT in schools and the use of educational apps. The majority of parents who own a smartphone or tablet (59 per cent) say that they would like their child’s school to invest in more educational apps, with 48 per cent predicting that mobile software will replace textbooks by 2016.
Ian Grant, Managing Director of Britannica said: “With so many parents and children already using educational apps, it’s vital that schools embrace this new technology and really explore its potential.”
LapSafe® Products understands that many schools are already using educational apps and mobile technology in the classroom, with tech-savvy teachers using a charging trolley for iPads and security for iPads to manage tablet PCs. Laptop charging trolleys are also popular with schools, enabling teachers to recharge and secure laptops after classroom use.
