Case Study - Great Easton Primary School

22.12.2008

The Client

Great Easton Primary School gives high priority to providing quality learning experiences so that all individuals can achieve personal excellence, within a happy and secure environment. The school community encourages pupils with positive attitudes, acquiring knowledge, gaining skills and promoting a life-long enthusiasm for learning. Judged as outstanding, by Ofsted the school prepares pupils ‘very effectively for their future’ and ‘teachers are extremely successful in making learning relevant by weaving subjects together so that key skills in subjects such as ICT are practised in meaningful situations.

The Requirement

To help support pupils using ICT across the curriculum the school lease a set of laptops. These are used by all children from Foundation Stage to Year 6 effectively all day every day. These laptops were supplied along with a storage trolley as part of the rental. However, this trolley had several problems that affected ease of use and indeed caused some damage to the laptops. This included continual tripping of power mains, effectively putting teachers off using the unit and requiring pupils and teachers to manually move the laptops from a point of charge.

The Solution

The school now has the new UnoCart™ from LapSafe®, which has proved to be much more functional and flexible. Damien Pye, Head Teacher and ICT Adviser, is extremely pleased with the difference having the UnoCart™ has already made for both pupils and teachers. Damien said “We wanted a quality product that was safe, portable, and could cope with daily usage by 4 -11 year olds! The Unocart™ gave us this and much more without breaking the bank.” Damien added “Pupils are able to use the UnoCart™ independently and find it easy to take out and return their laptops as the laptops’ own AC adaptors are configured to allow this via the highly effective cable management system. Pupils say ‘it is so much easier to use than the old one, that was really tricky!’ and ‘I like this one much better.”

The cable management system proved both quick easy for IT technician John Middleton to install with the UnoCart™ ready and fully operational within 90 minutes. It has also been easy to move and maintain.

Teachers love their new trolley, especially as it comes in ‘a shade of blue which matches school colours!’ They have found it ‘so much more user friendly’ and as it enables pupils to access ICT so easily it enhances both learning and teaching.

LapSafe® Products are proud to work together with schools to develop the very best possible solutions to meet their needs and would like to thank the staff and pupils of Great Easton C of E VA Primary School for their contributions to making the UnoCart™ ‘the best a school can get!’
